Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that apart from the different casual works I usually do, I now have an alternative source of income which is selling milk that I will be getting from my cow. This has always made my heart be at peace unlike before since I know that I will be able to pay for my children's school fees without any difficulty.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was in the morning as I was going on with my daily activities when my daughter informed me that I had received the money that GiveDirectly had promised us. At that instant, I was filled with happiness and I stopped what I was doing. I accompanied my daughter back home so that we could pray together as a family to thank God for His abundant mercies and blessings which He had showered unto us through GiveDirectly.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
My son has always been sleeping at my neighbors' house since I live in a two-roomed house and culturally, we cannot sleep under the same roof because of his age. This has always affected his studies during the evening hours since he has to go there early due to security reasons. When I received my first transfers, I decided to use part of it in buying building materials like iron sheets, cement, timber, nails, doors, windows to use in building a house for my son and in paying a mason. I used the remaining amount to buy a cow. I settled on this since I will be selling the milk I will be getting and use the money I get in paying school fees for my children.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My greatest desire has been to have a steady source of income and zero school fees balance for my children in school. Now, receiving this money will mean that, I will use part of it in offsetting all the school fees arrears for my four children in school. Then, I'll use the rest of the transfer to start a dairy farming and as a result generate income through the sale of dairy products.
What is the happiest part of your day?
After taking breakfast, my usual day entails heading to the quarry site till lunchtime where I come back and prepare lunch for my family. I then take a rest for around two hours and this is the time my body relaxes and re-energizes. Later in the afternoon, I get back to work in the quarry site until in the evening when I come back home.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My biggest worry is that I don't have a reliable source of income. I depend solely on Quarrying from a nearby site to fend for my family. This job is intense, under-paying and very hard and as such one cannot do it frequently. As a result, I don't normally get regular income, meaning I have to settle for the less that I get with my family. This forces us to skip some meals so as to live within our budget constraints. This has been our regular norm for an extended period of time.
