My life is different than how it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I have renovated my house to look better. I depend on small scale farming and the harvest that we get is only for consumption. I do not have a continuous source of income. I also did not had some savings. When I received the second transfer I found it wise to invest on renovating my house. I used to live in a dusty house which I was exposed to dust particles. Due to my old age I was vulnerable to dust. Currently I am so happy because I no longer exposed to this dusty related diseases. GiveDirectly has changed my living standard. I am so happy because I now sleep soundly and feel better than before.

In my opinion GiveDirectly does well by giving money to the poor in the community to build better houses and to buy dairy cows. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well.

I spent part of the money I received from GiveDirectly to renovate my house to look better, I bought pains and furniture. I used to live in house that was not looking good. The rest of the money I bought food for the family. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed my living standard.

I was at home relaxing with my family when the M-Pesa SMS got on my phone. I became very happy on seeing this and I immediately informed my family members of the good news. They were so happy to hear this and we celebrated together. We had never received such a huge sum of money and hence it was unbelievable to us. We thanked God for everything.

The transfer has brought a big difference in our lives. Having painted the house that we are living in, it now looks good and new. The rainwater will no longer be getting absorbed by the timber that was used in the building. This will hence prevent further rotting of the timber. We are going to take care of the calf that we bought with the transfer. When it grows, it will reproduce and we will be able to get milk that our grandchildren can consume and sell some. The cost of buying milk will have hence be cut down. The food that we bought will push us a while before it gets finished. We hence have something to eat and we no longer have to go hungry. The nets that I bought and placed on the walls to cover them have made the walls look much better and beautiful. We thank GiveDirectly for making this possible for us.

The transfer has helped me and my family in various ways. I bought a calf with part of it. I also painted the house that we have been living in it. The transfer also helped me in buying food, that is maize and rice for our consumption. I also bought some nets for covering the walls of the house. I have been buying milk for quite some time and that is why I decided to buy a calf. My grandchildren have been lacking milk for their consumption and also the cost of buying the milk in our area is high. We had built a house with timber and due to lack of money, we were not in a position to paint it at the time. We hence decided to live in it that way. The house has hence become dirty and the timber has started rotting because it has been absorbing the rainwater. We hence decided to paint it so that it can look much better and for the timber to stop rotting. We were not in a position to do the above especially to buy a calf and paint the house because we did not have the money. We depend on small scale farming as our source of livelihoods. The little money that we have been making out of this farming has only been enough to buy everyday food and other household items.
