Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I learned that Ib had received my transfer at around seven in the morning when I was cleaning my compound. I was surprised and happy at the same time because I knew I will finally revive my business. I sincerely thank GD for choosing our household as one of the beneficiaries.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Having expanded my kiosk has made my life to be totally different. This was my major source of income since my spouse is jobless, this was the business we were depending on. It reached a time when we consumed the profits due to the poverty life that we had. We were forced to take some loans so that we can boost the business. Finally, we had to close down the kiosk because we were running out of the capital. I am so grateful to GD for the financial help because I never expected anytime soon the business will revive. It's now doing okay with good returns since there is enough stock and capital as well. I am now a proud parent because of the profits that I am earning, I can now take good care of my family without straining like before.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my first transfer to expand my kiosk. Previously I had closed the kiosk because I had consumed all the profits and had nothing to add new stock. I also paid some hospital bills for my spouse who has been unwell for quite a long time. I then saved the remaining amount of money in my bank account so that in case I have an emergency I can timely settle it.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
"Receiving this money means expanding my business. I am a business lady who runs a medium size shop. My desire has been to expand this business to be a retail shop but due to financial challenges, this dream has never materialized. I planning to spend all the transfer 110,000 shillings on adding stock to my shop. This will generate good income to my family. I will be using the profits to cater for my family basic needs such as food."
What is the happiest part of your day?
"Evening becomes my happiest part of the day. It is at this time when I glorify God for taking me through the whole day."
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Lack of a good source of income has been my biggest hardship in life. I am running a medium size shop, which provides me with little coins as profits. In a day I earn like 250 shillings. This amount is not enough to cater for my family needs.
