How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I have desired to complete my house project and also set up a retailed business for my wife. I never had enough money to buy zinc and nails to roof my house. However, when I received my transfer, I bought 2 bundles of zinc and 1carton of nails to roof my house. Furthermore, I purchased half bag of flour, 6 gallons of oil and few cups of sugar to establish a retailed business for my wife.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I really admire the various steps taken by GiveDirectly in selecting qualified household within a specific town/village to benefit from this program. GD has been very much transparent from the enrolment stage up to disbursement stage. Personally, I see nothing that GiveDirectly is not doing extremely good. I am so delighted to be part of this project.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Two of my biggest dreams at the moment are (A) To set-up a retailed business and (B) To complete my house project. Therefore, when I received my transfer, I bought 1 carton of nails ($5,750LD) and two bundles of zinc ($21,000LD). Likewise, the remaining portion of my transfer was used to purchase flour, sugar and oil for my wife's newly established retailed business. With GD transfer, my life has transitioned from being very hopeless to being a goal getter. I am privileged to have benefited from this program.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I went up the mountain were we do call usually and check our phones. To my suprise, I received my alert.I was very happy and hurried ran down to the town and inform my family. Across this Timbo river, This is the very first time receiving such gift. There is a lot of happiness and stress free in my life now.My life is better than before. Thanks Givedirectly for making my life better.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The difference now in my life is that, I will never go to a longer distance in the forest to cut thatch for my house. My only source of livelihood before Givedirectly came in my community has been farming and getting the product out of the community across the Timbo river has been difficult. Some time I sell it for lower price and could not generate more cash for development. But now, with the cash transfer from Givedirectly, my life is improving.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I was able to buy three bundles of Zinc and a carton of nail to remove the thatch that always causes illnesses in my family. I am one of the happiest recipient today in my community especially during the raining season. It fall on all of our materials in the house. Thanks to the Givedirectly family for making me a great person in my community.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
From 2018 to present, my spouse and I have been living in my father's house. This is happening because we don't have the financial capability to construct our own place. Even up to present, my spouse and our son are still residing in my father's house. If we qualify for GiveDirectly cash transfer program, my wife and I intend to use the money to build our own place and leave my father house. Portion of the money will also go toward the payment of my children school fees.
What is the happiest part of your day?
For years now, I have struggled to sponsor my children in school. They sometime start and after few periods or after the first semester, they all will drop due to lack of money. After making rice farm, cutting palm and planting cassava just to send my children to school, I feel so happy whenever I see them completing the academic year successfully and progressing to the next class.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I have been cutting palm for about 20 years now just to provide quality education for my children. Besides, some academic year my children do not go to school because my wife and I can not afford to sponsor them financially. Up to date, I am still cutting palm which is a dangerous work for one to be doing. Finding a stable means of livelihood to feed my wife and send my children to school is the biggest challenge I am currently facing.
