How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I have not seen any difference at the moment given that I am still preparing the building materials to enable me to construct a new house. This will replace my old house that has worn out and not in very good condition. When that happens, I will boldly say that there is a difference in my daily life. I will not have to worry of the house collapsing or even the rains disrubing my sleep.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly has done well to empower the people living in a rural setup through the transfers they sent us. The money also came directly to me. I can imagine if it was to pass through someone, maybe it could have never reached me. Personally, I want to thank them for transforming my life. On the other hand, I have not seen anything or anywhere they did not do well and maybe need improvements.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I used part of the transfer to buy iron sheets to construct a new house. The remainder of the money I will spend on buying timber and pay labour and soon start construction. The house that I currently live in was built 29 years ago and is not in a good condition. I fear when the rain comes it might collapse on us, over the years, it has weakened. The walls are worn out and the roof is leaking too.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
A plan to buy and own a cow has been my dream since the year 2003 when I got a chance to work as a housegirl in a family which had many milk-producing cows. Planning that now and seeing it come to pass is really the biggest difference in my life because before I got married I was in a family with no cows and I also was married to a family with no cows. All my breakfast have been routinely made of black tea and it has always been my prayer that one day I would be able to at least be buying milk or even milking from my own cows. I thank GiveDirectly for making this possible.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The message came as a surprise and I had to wake my daughter up to try and read since I never attended any school when I was young and could not read, unfortunately we were not able to nevigate the phone menu to the massages section which made me lose that hope of knowing what the message had to convey at that moment. since I was preparing to get to my daily routine in the farm, I left my daughter with the phone who later came running and shouting that he had finally made to access the message and that it was from GiveDirectly. On asking what the message was all about, she could say nothing but "money". I droped the hoe I was using in the farm and in that celebratory mood I joinned my daughter as we run back home. This was a really the happiest day in my life since we were filled with lots of joy.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I had been suffering from a severe toothache for a long time now, this had been giving me sleepless nights and when we received the transfer, my husband was very happy that at last I will be seeking better medical attention from a better hospital. I have already spent part of what was remaining in purchasing farm tools among them is a plough which is now awaiting for the oxen to be bought. since we received the transfer we decided that we will not change much of our living standard and start using the money we received in buying some of the things which are not in our priority list, at the moment we are still taking black tea as we used to do before untill when we see everything settled. We decided to put the remaining 35000 KES in a savings account since we could not spend immediately due to the much hiked up prices of the livestocks we were intending to buy. we thank GD so much for making the dreams we have beeen having come true.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means I will buy oxen and an ox plough. I will then be able to produce more on my farm. I will use part of the produce to feed my family and the rest I will sell to earn some income.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning. Even though we might lack many things, waking up to find my family healthy and sound makes me very happy and contented.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship in my life is lack of a stable source of income. This makes it really hard for me to provide basic needs for my family especially food.
