How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
If I could not receive cash transfer from give directly I could not have managed to put up a nice spacious iron roofed house as I did. I could still be staying in a very small a grass-thatched leaking house and i very sure by now it could have fallen down. I am very grateful to Give directly for changing my life.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion Give directly does not involve third party in their program, they deal with people directly. I also feel it was a very good thing to use M-pesa as away of sending money to us because it is very convenient and safer way send cash. Their stuffs were also transparent in everything they were doing, there were no any signs of corruption. I did not see what Give directly did not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
My spouse past on long time ago leaving me in a very pathetic house that everybody would sympathise with me, the house was very old whereby when it was raining I would be rained on together with my children that sometimes I would take my children to spend the night at their grandmother's house. I have gone through alot but I was not able to come out of the situation because I did not have any stable source of income. I would admire and long to own a nice house just like other people's houses but my dream could not come true. So when I got the first cash transfer from Give directly I did not withdraw it until I received the second transfer. When I got the second one I combined the two and bought building materials and put up a spacious iron roofed house in my own compound. I am the happiest woman in the village, many people thought that I will never stay in iron roofed house because l was very poor l could not afford to put up a better house. The remaining balance I spent to buy cow as my future investment since when it gives birth I will be able to get milk for my consumption and even sell it to the community to get money for my up keep.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the peace and pride I have for owning a home for the first time in my life. It has always been tough and challenging staying in my late mothers-in-law house. Finally, I can afford a peaceful sleep and I can walk with my head up like other fellow women since the pride of every woman is to own a home.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was 3:00 am and by that time I was already awake because of the many thoughts and worries I had in mind, wondering how I could raise money for purchasing a land where I could construct a home. All over sudden I heard the phone beep and at first, I thought it could be bad news, so I was hesitant to check the message. On the second beep I decided to check the message and to my surprise, it was money from GiveDirectly. This was a miracle! I felt so happy and I couldn't believe it because this was the first time I was receiving such an amount of money in my life.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
My spouse passed on some years back unfortunately by the time he passed on he had not constructed us a house, neither did we have a piece of land to construct the house so for a long period of time we had to put up in my late mother-in-law's house. The moment I received the first transfer I used it to purchase a piece of land where I have already constructed a small house that we are staying in currently. I'm now happy and at peace, I have a place I call home and my children also have a place they will construct their houses when they grow old enough. I feel independent and I can now start investing for the future.
