How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The cash transfers have transformed my life from a state of nothingness to a very comfortable state. I constructed a three roomed permanent house that accommodates the family. In the past, we had five thatched houses which were very hard to maintain due to the scarcity of grass and timber. I am the happiest person because I have achieved alot with the cash transfers.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly does so well to send the needy cash transfers which have transformed very many lives. On overall, GiveDirectly has done so well to the communities.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the second cash transfer to purchase a plot of land and household items such as a mattress and bed sheets.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is happiness to see that I will soon have an iron sheet roofed house, that will be a good break from that leaking grass thatched house.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
That moment I received the money, I felt so happy to be receiving such an amount of money in my life, and there was joy in the neighbourhood as well.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
My first transfer was spent to buy building materials such as bricks, cement, iron sheets to be used to construct a house. I also bought bedsheets and balance spent on feeding.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
When I receive this money, I will pay back a loan where I staked some land as collateral. I needed money urgently for the treatment of my father inlaw. This has affected our agricultural practices because the piece of land we remained with is very small hence giving us low outputs. I am sure I will remain with some balance, so, I will build a low cost ironsheets house so that we also reduce the burden of replacing grass frequently.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the afternoon because it is usually the time we gather as a family and share the little we have.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced is lack of enough land for agriculture. This has affected our feeding at home because there is no food security guaranteed.
