How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
One of the goals I had before receiving the transfers was to purchase a dairy cow. Unfortunately, the one I bought with the first transfer recently died. I had raised my hopes high knowing that by the end of the year I would have enough milk both for my family and some for sale. It is unfortunate that things did not turn out as planned. I, am, therefore planning to raise some money for purchasing a cow hoping that it will survive.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, Give Directly is doing well by giving people cash without demanding any form of payment. With the current economy, it is rare to find reasonable jobs, let alone getting such an amount of money without anything in return. Give Directly has positively impacted many people's lives. On the other hand, there is nothing that it does not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I had constructed a decent house but it still lacked proper furniture and a ceiling board. When I received my second transfer, I used KES 25000 to both purchase proper furniture and to construct a ceiling board. My house is neat and presentable. I only had a few wooden chairs that could not fit my family of 5 and the income I earned from casual work could not afford decent furniture. My spouse was due to give birth in the same month. I, therefore, spent KES 5000 on the hospital bills while KES 22000 I spent on both newborn's clothing and foodstuffs for the family.
