How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than it would have been if I never received the transfer in that I am living a better life. Through the transfer, I was able to acquire oxen which will assist me in preparing my farm something that will be assure me of get enough food for the family. Previously, I was plowing using my hand which is time consuming considering that we receive rains in a season is short. In addition, I was able to boost my livestock rearing by purchasing more animals.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well in assisting the poor households in the society through the cash transfers program which has transformed our lives for the better. I don't see anything that it does not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent $300 of the transfer to boost my livestock rearing activity by purchasing one cow and 5 goats. This is because I have been dependent on this activity for my family survival. This is our future investment which will help us whenever we encounter any financial challenge. I am planning to sell the offspring once they reproduce to cater for the education needs for my children. In addition, I was able to clear school fees for my children and purchase school uniforms. I also bought enough food for the family with the remaining amount of money.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was preparing lunch for my family when I received the good news that I had finally received the long-awaited Mpesa message from GiveDirectly. I felt so happy and up to date, it feels like a dream to me, receiving such a huge amount of money that is non-refundable and unconditional. I was positive that I would achieve a lot through the transfers.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am now hopeful and happier together with my family. For all those years I have been living in poverty life and I have been having the dream of rearing livestock that I can lean on in case of any financial difficulties. I had no idea where I would get the required money to purchase them because they were too expensive. Therefore after receiving the first transfers I opted to own a trip of goats. As compared to other domestic animals gats reproduce twice a year and their young ones normally mature very fast. This makes me believe that in a couple of months to come, I will have several of them. My plan is when they increase in number, I will sell the offspring to the nearby markets and since the business is so lucrative, I am certain that my life will transform positively. Therefore I will no longer strain in paying school fees and the daily bread for my family.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent a huge part of my first transfer in buying twelve goats and a dairy cow at a total of KES 45000. For so many years, I have been aspiring to own them but because of my financial status, this was not achievable. In addition to that, I purchased a new mattress becasue the previous one had worn out and I wasn't sleeping comfortably. As a result, I could complain of some back pains and I was forced to seek medical attention frequently. With the remaining amount, I bought enough foodstuff for my family.
