How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is now different in that I am now self employed and I no longer have to depend on casual jobs that are not always available. i am now self employed i do not have to depend on casual jobs.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Give Directly has done well in assisting me to start a business. I am now self-employed and I run my own business. I see nothing that Give Directly has done wrong.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my most recent transfer to begin a livestock business. I buy goats and resell them at the market in Bamba. I started this business because I had seen how profitable it had been to the people in my village who were engaged in the business. I felt I should also try the business so I can make some income to sustain my family. I used to dig trenches in the village for a living and my wife is unemployed. We now have this business to support my family and I am grateful to Give Directly.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference is that previously I had no oxen and for me to plough my land I had to hire from neighbours which was costly to me. I am happy that I will no longer hire from them, instead, I will be hiring to them which to me its an income.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was woken up by the notification from GiveDirectly at around 6 am in the morning. On reading the message, I had received my transfer. I was very happy because I had never imagined getting such a large sum of money in my life.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent part of my first transfer to buy a pair of oxen. To me, this is the biggest achievement that this transfer could do to my life. I have for a long time desired to at least get some means and ways of improving my farming activity to increase food production. However this I could not achieve, it's only through the GiveDirectly money that I was able to acquire the pair. I am happy that I will no longer hire from neighbours and I will increase the acreage of my arable land. The door for my house was nearly breaking for it was old and worn-out hence I had to replace it with a new one. I purchased another one through the GiveDirectly money. On the remaining amount, I spent on buying daily provisions such as food and other necessities for my family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
As a farmer, receiving this money means I will buy more oxen to allow me tilt more land for my family and also tilt for others at a relatively lower cost.My house has also been without a door for six years and this has made my family members feel insecure at night.Getting money from GD means I will buy and fix the door to make my family members feel secure.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is always in the morning when I am in the farm.My happiness comes from the hope that whatever I do in the farm will bring good harvest and cushion me from traveling to far areas to look for casual jobs in future.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Lack of stable source of income is the biggest hardship I have faced in life.Farming has become unreliable in the recent past due to low rains and being there no other economic activity in the area,I have been compelled to look for casual jobs such as making blocks for construction far in Tsimboni.
