How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
No, I do not have any new goals that emerged so far. The one I had was to buy the dairy cows and pay the remaining school fees for my children. I am so glad that I was able to fulfill all of these and I am hopeful that soon I will achieve a lot, especially through the cows.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly does a super great job by making sure that all the residents were enrolled in the program. There was no discrimination at all and I must mention that the organization brought happiness and harmony to the entire village. I, therefore, do not see any part GiveDirectly failing us.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my second transfer on buying two dairy cows worthy of KES 30000.It has been my desire to at least have one but I couldn't afford it because of the financial hardships that I was experiencing. I settled for them because they have numerous benefits. Through them, I will be getting plenty of liters of milk and even manure. Since I am jobless, I will soon start a business selling milk to dairy shops and generate an income. To add to that, I cleared school fees of KES 10000 for my grandchildren who are in secondary schools. I have been struggling to pay their fees on time but this was not achievable because most of the days I depended on the well-wishers. Therefore having cleared the balances is a relief to me. With the remaining amount of money, I bought foodstuffs for my family and other household expenses.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I felt so happy when I got the money because I didn't expect to get that amount so easily. It was a good thing and I am so grateful.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my life is the hope that with my grandson's education, positive change now is clear to me now and in the future unlike before. I am more hopeful now than I was before, all thanks to GiveDirectly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent a total of KES24500 to buy seven goats. This is because compared to cows, goats can survive in the dry climate of our area and will multiply which is something I will be able to depend on in the future. I also gave KES7000 for my grandson's school fees arrears because I know that if he gets a good education he won't forget me and that I would depend on him as well.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Investing in livestock has always been my desire. This is because it is the only way I can save my money to earn a profit when I sell them after they multiply. Therefore I intend to start with 15 goats that will cost me KES 45000 of my first transfer. The remaining amount of the first transfer will cater to food expenses and other household needs. I will further spend KES 40000 of my second transfer to buy 2 indegious dairy cows for milk production for consumption and sell the surplus to earn income. With the remaining amount, I will buy a new bed and mattress to replace the old ones which do not give me a nice sleep, and hence, this will guarantee me a better living.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My happiest part of the day is in the morning. Waking up healthy with my family is something that makes me feel happy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I am a housewife who majorly depends on my husband who is working as a heard man. His job is tiresome yet its earning is very minimal of KES 3000 per month such that cannot fully support all household expenses. Consequently, we skip meals or borrow from other relatives something that ashames me a lot. Therefore, I consider the lack of a reliable source of income as the biggest hardship that I have ever faced in my life.
