How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Currently I do not have any goals that I can say once I get money I will accomplish. I usually sit down and figure out what to do once I have ready cash in my hands. I have grown up with this character to avoid depression of desiring to do things that are out of my reach.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Sincerely speaking, if it were not for GiveDirectly I could not have managed to seek medical attention and also my children would be out of school due to school fees. I see this organization as a blessing since it aided me greatly at a time when I had no means at all. It is only that we were clearly informed of receiving two transfers but I would really wish the organization to review its policies and come again.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I was not feeling well by the time I received the second transfer. Upon withdrawal, I used KES 16000.00 for my medication, and paid KES 6000.00 school fees for my 2 children who had some fee arrears and they were ever being sent home for fees. Thereafter, I took KES 8000.00 and saved it in a local sacco and I am planning to start a business with the remaining amount. I cannot tell you right away the kind of business since I am still doing my research on which business to venture into.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was at a small food outlet within our village where I worked as a waitress. I was busy serving my customers when I heard the message alert on my phone. I checked my phone and I was surprised to see a message carrying the transfer from Segovia technology. I was so happy for receiving the transfer that would transform my life for the better. I had to continue with my work till evening when I returned home to join my family in planning on how best to spend the transfers.

The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am currently a happy farmer after boosting my livestock rearing with the help of the transfer. I am no longer worried about the future of my children since I will be able to sell them when they multiply to cater for their education. I spent KES 21,000 to purchase 7 goats to boost my livestock rearing an alternative source of living for my family and future investment for the children's educational needs. In addition, I bought a bed and mattress for KES 14,000. Before, I was sleeping on a small bed that was not enough to share with my 3 children. I also used KES 6,000 to support the education of my kids by paying their school fees as well as purchasing new school uniforms. Lastly, I spend KES 11,500 to seek proper medical care since I was suffering from a skin disease. I am happy that I am now feeling well at this aided by the transfer.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means good education to my 3 children. I came back from my matrimonial home after separating from my husband 4 years ago. He was the breadwinner to our family and since then life has not been easy. I plan to practice livestock keeping. I will spend KES 70,000 to purchase 20 ingenious goats. This is going to be a source of income for my family of 4 members because will sell them at a profit price in the future and educate my children who are in the lower classes. Other than that, I will invest the remaining amount to start a food kiosk business which will also add income to our family and enable me to meet our basic needs such as school fees.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Evening is the happiest part of the day. It is at this time when I have enough time with my children, after a long day of working hard to make sure I provide for them. The laughter and stories we make at our sitting rooms make me forget the struggles I undergo to meet their needs such as school fees.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in my life is a lack of support from my husband. Since we separated 4 years ago he has never supported us in either way. I work as a casual laborer and this job is not guaranteed. The wages of KES 200 per day are not enough to sustain all our basic needs such as school fees making it hard for my children to settle in school and study.
