How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My new goal is to concentrate on payment of school fees for my children. I have two of my children in secondary school and the third born is also joining secondary school next year. This calls for us as parents to work even harder to raise enough money to pay their school fees. The building and construction work that I do may not really be enough to raise enough to pay this fee and it is fir this reason that I am thinking of boosting my livestock keeping in an effort to make more money to pay their school fee. We are very optimistic and very hopeful that we will have enough money to take our children successfully through school.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion GiveDirectly did very well in enrolling everyone evenly without any form of biasness and giving each of us the freedom to choose what to spend our money on. The freedom to choose how to spend the money really gave us an opportunity to make wise decisions depending on what everyone thought were their priority areas. We did not on the other hand find anything that was not in order with GiveDirectly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used KES 25000 to complete the construction of my house and used another KES 4000 to buy a goat. The remaining amount was used to pay school fees for my two children who are in secondary school. Before GiveDirectly came into our village we had one family house for all of us. The house was too small and my children would not get the much needed space and privacy to pursue their studies uninterrupted. This left me thinking of how I would be able to raise enough money and be in a position to construct a new house. I am particularly very grateful since GiveDirectly provided me with the neccesary support to do this. Right now, we have a new house and we can be sure to have our children study uninterrupted and hopefully post good results. The room has also been very useful in making sure that we have enough space for them to sleep and enjoy their privacy like they have so deaired. I am a father of four and I do building and construction within my locality to earn a living. I also decided to make an investment in livestock since it is one of the main economic activity that we rely on in our area and which which offer me an alternative source of income to support my children in school. My family was very lucky and grateful to have been part of this life changing program.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was some few minutes to six while winding up my masonry work when I heard an SMS alert on my phone. On checking, I confirmed to have received KES55000 from GiveDirectly. I and my workmates were very excited and are still are to date.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving the transfers is clearance of this term's school fees and last term arrears. The transfers have also enabled me build a modern kitchen which I had desired to build for the past five years but couldn't afford because of school fees burdens. In terms of food accessibility, before I used to buy food on a daily basis but with GiveDirectly transfers I have bought food in bulk which can sustain us for the next two months.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES20000 on payment of school fees for my daughter in high school because I had pending arrears for last term and this term as well.I also spent KES23000 on a building a one a roomed semi permanent house. This is because the previous one was grass thatched and was build over fifteen years hence old with leaking roofs.I spent KES4800 on a ram as an long term investment because it multiplies fast and KES6000 on food and clothing.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
When I receive this money, I will prioritize building a permanent house with three rooms. One room will be for my children as they are currently sleeping in the kitchen. This makes them uncomfortable and not peaceful when they go to sleep due to smoke and excess heat. This will cost about KES 50000 of this money. My daughter is in form two, to enable her to study peacefully without being sent home for school fees, I will therefore plan KES 20000 to clear school fees. I will then use the remaining money to buy food and clothing for my family.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I have been always motivated and happy by the little I earn from my casual jobs. This money KES 200 enabled me to support my family and provide for them.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I do not have a stable source of income, this is making it difficult for me to pay school fees for my daughter in Kamaget secondary school.
