How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different in that feeding has improved compared to when transfers weren't there. Secondly, the bulls are great use in ploughing gardens to grow food crops. Before, it was not easy to find someone who would plough your gardens using oxen for a low price, yet you have no money.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly has done well giving us money that has enabled people to acquire items which weren't there before like iron sheet roofed houses, livestock, household items such as mattresses, clothes, and food. In addition, staff are so self disciplined in that they don't take or ask anything from recipients.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
My second transfer to buy a bull. Paid labour for heaping sweet potatoes garden, and the balance spent on feeding.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference is that I acquired an ox that will boost my labour force. I am very pleased that I can afford to eat three meals at the right time. In the past, we could only afford one regular meal and my six children were not healthy. I can proudly say that the GiveDirectly cash transfer raised my household from grass to grace because I can now boast of the property that I have acquired like an ox.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I recall hearing noise from my neighborhood. At first I thought it was a thief they were chasing. However, I overheard one person shouting that he had received money. I retreated into the house and checked my phone to confirm the news.At that moment I became very happy because I had many needs.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I purchased an ox worth UGX 1130000 and food worth UGX 170000. I bought a solar power system worth UGX 180000. The balance of the cash transfer was spent on weeding the farm lands.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
When I receive this money, I will buy my own oxen and Ox-plough. I have been borrowing and hiring ploughing services from neighbours but with this blessing that GD is going to bring, all that hustle will come to an end. This will also help to save the money I have been spending on hiring ploughing services and also it will help generate income to my family because I will also hire it out. When some money remains, I will construct a veranda on my house and buy some household items like clothing, beddings, utensils and many more missing ones.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the afternoon when I'm done with most of the garden work. I feel relaxed and have time for the children.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced is illness. I was diagnosed with HIV and this occassionally puts me down limitting my input in agriculture which is our main source of income.
