How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Now that I have achieved my dream of owning a piece of land and building a house, it is my wish to buy a dairy cow and to build a kitchen. The house that I was able to build using my transfer consists of two rooms that will serve as our bedroom and living room. Building a separate kitchen is my priority so that I will not be wearing clothes that smell of smoke all the time. In addition, acquiring a dairy cow will also enable me to earn some money through the sale of milk apart from being able to save the money that I would otherwise spend on food.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly did well by giving out unconditional financial aid to people in the society. This enabled us to achieve our goals in life depending on our priorities. Because of this, I am a proud owner of a piece of land and I have been able to build a two-room house. I do not see anything that did not go well with their operations.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am a single mother of two and it had been my wish to own a piece of land so that I can have somewhere to settle. We have been living in a house that I was given by my parents and in my culture, it is not common to find ladies inheriting land from their parents. I had not been able to achieve this since I depend on working on other people's farms and I get paid KES 200 a day that I spend on food. I am glad that I was able to buy this goal using my first transfer and on receiving the second one, I spent KES 45000 to build a more spacious house and used the remaining amount on food and clothes for the family. I will be moving into this house very soon and I can't wait to have a taste of how it feels like living in my own house.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received the transfer I felt so happy. I remember it was around 11 am. When I heard my neighbors celebrating. I was on my farm cultivating. Then within no time I heard a ringtone message from my phone. When I checked it out I couldn't believe my eyes. It was a message confirming that I have received money from GiveDirectly. I stopped whatever I was doing to celebrate. I inform my family members and they were so happy too. I knew I would be able to buy a piece of land and settle down. I used to live in my grandmother's farm. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed my living standard.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have purchased a land. I used to live in a small house in my grandmother's land. I depend on small causal jobs in the village and the amount of money that I get through this is so small and was only for household basic needs and school fees for my children. I had no extra money to save so that I can buy a land. Iife was not easy because I had no other source of income. I didn't expected to own a piece of land. I didn't know where my children could live. When I received the transfer I felt so happy. This was a break though for me. I bought a piece of land at a cost of KES 45,000. I have fenced it well now and planning on building a house. I didn't know this could happened to me. I am so grateful and I have hope that soon I gonna build a house and move in with my family. My children too are so happy because the have a place to call our land. I am so grateful for the support because GiveDirectly has changed our living standards.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spend KES 45,000 to purchase a piece of land. I used to live in a small house in my grandmother's land. I had always wished to own my own land and build a better house. Since I had no money it was not possible. Currently I have a land and I am planning on building a house soon. I spend the rest to buy food and clothes for my children. I am so grateful because were it not GiveDirectly I would not have own a land. I wished to do farming so that I get enough food for the family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have always yearned for my own land as I currently live in a grass thatched house that I inherited from my grandmother. I have 2 children and would wish to secure a future for them. This is not possible at the moment for the land I live in belongs to my grandmother. When I receive this money, I intend to use KES 60000 to purchase 0.2 acres of land. I will use the rest of the transfers to build a grass thatched house and to start a maize business.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I usually wake up at 7 O'clock in the morning, prepare breakfast for my household then leave for work. I oftenly cultivate people's land to earn a living and hence channel the money for food for my household. I am always happy in the morning for I am energetic and ready to tackle the day's activities on the farm.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My biggest hardship is owning a land. I am a single lady with 2 children and depend on casual labour for a living. I oftenly cultivate people's land to earn KES 100 daily which is not sufficient to purchase a land as it caters only for food for my household. The land I currently live in belongs to my grandmother therefore I can't own inheritance rights over it.
