How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different from the way it would have been had I not received the transfer in that I'm now proud and happy I have made a great step in life. This is because I was able to purchase a piece of land which I will use in building my own house. This was the biggest problem I had because I could not buy land with my low income from casual work which could not even feed my family well. I am looking for money to buy building materials so that I can finally have my own home.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GD does well in giving cash directly to the recipient without involving anyone. This enables the recipient to get the exact money promised to them unlike when it has to go through other channels which will cause deductions. There is nothing GD is not doing well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
We separated with my spouse some years back and he left me with nothing not even a piece of land to put up a house. This forced me to stay in a rental house because I did not have anywhere to stay. I, therefore, bought a piece of land with the second transfer which I intend to use in building a house for my children so that we can channel the rent money on other important and urgent family needs. I'm happy I now have a place to construct a home and I do not feel poor as I used to. I also have an asset just like my neighbors.
