What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer on buying a bicycle since I was having a problem of transport. I also used some of this money to repair a grinding mill which had broken down sometime back and lacked money to fix it. I also bought a cow with this transfer which I may sale in future to pay school fees. The remaing money I used it on feeding the household since there is not enough food.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GD did well to liberate me from the bad state I was living to a better one now. The money I was sent by GD helped me in so many ways like repairing a grinding mill, buy livestock, a bicycle and feeding my family. I love the fact that GD saw our conditions of living and decided to help us unconditionally. To me there is nothing wrong done by GD because we did not request for this help in the first place but GD decided to help us.
How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is better now in that, I was able to pay off land mortgage therefore I have enough land to farm on. I was able to repair my grinding mill which generates daily income that has helped cater for some basic needs. The transfers also enable me procure a cow and feed my family. Prior to receiving this money, I used to have a problem of transport but I was able to buy a bicycle that has eased my movement. Life before GD was so difficult in terms of feeding because I did not have enough money to take care of my family.
