How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I have built a huge beautiful house which I could not have built were it not for the transfers from GD. I used to live in a very small structure that could barely accommodate my family comfortably, depriving us of personal privacy. However, today things are different because this house has four rooms and everyone enjoys their own privacy. Moreover, I no longer feel embarrassed whenever I get visitors who come to pay me a visit and may like to spend a night at my place.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I think that the organization helps the poor and the most needy in the society achieve those things they only dreamed of and could never achieve by their own. For instance, there are those who used the money to build new houses while some used the money to educate their kids, which according to me is such a nice thing to do.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the second cash transfer to build a new house where I bought some building materials such as two trucks of sand that were sold to me at a cost of 7000 KES. After the house was constructed fully, I decided to do some finishing touches where I placed tiles in the house at an approximate cost of 7000 KES. Doing the cementing procedure of both the interior and exterior sections took a total of 12000 KES.

I felt very happy because I had been stressed because of the condition of my house. I was worried it could fall down anytime due to weak pole and walls yet I did not have enough money to build another one.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my transfer on buying building materials such sand and cement which I used in plastering my house since the house I had earlier was weak and the mad was falling off and the rest I used in buying a cow which I can sell later to raise money for other financial needs.
