I have a difference in my life because initially, I used to plow just a small section of my piece of land because I had a very little amount of money at my disposal. Plowing two acres piece of land requires a lot of money which I have never handled. Apart from that, I also managed to build a new huge three bedroomed house using the first cash transfers. Initially, I used to live in a small house that could barely accommodate my family, but today I am proud to own this humongous building that comfortably accommodates my entire family.

According to me, I believe that Give Directly had a well laid out plan on how it wanted to execute its programs and according to what I saw, I think everything went well, nothing bad to write home. Everyone is so happy because the transfers helped people to change their lives, myself included. Were it not for the transfers, I would have still been living in that small old dilapidated structure which was too small compared to the size of my family.

I used the transfers on plowing my two-acre farm where I planted sugarcane on that piece of land. This is a big achievement for me because I never used to plow this intensively because my little income from the odd jobs can never be enough and can never enable me to achieve this much in life. I had to buy seedlings and fertilizers which I used on the farm so that I can be able to get a good harvest at the end of the season. This entire process could have cost around 35000 KES. The rest of the 15000 KES went into purchasing two bags of maize and paying school fees for my children who had school fees arrears. I am glad I cleared all the school fees arrears in good time and my kids were never sent home due to the pending arrears. Once that was done, I was left with a very little amount at hand which basically was used in the day to day purchase of foodstuff for the family and other miscellaneous expenses.

There is a great difference in my current life compared to the past one. I inherited so many parcels of land but due to lack of adequate resources, there was nothing I could do on them. I could only managed to lease them out to developers who could offer very little payment in return. Currently, I believe that I will gain out of my investment and become economically stable after sometime.

I had a blissful moment and felt confident because I knew that all my investment plan could be fulfilled, and I believe so due to the fact that, I have made positive progress to achieve that.

I spent my first transfer on payment of school fees for my younger sister who is in Secondary School and she is a candidate for next year final examinations. I wanted her to prepare fully without being sent back home for school fees. This will give her amicable time to study without disturbances. We are orphans and there were parcels of land which our late parents left behind as our only inheritance, but due lack of adequate resources to invest in farming, we could do nothing but to lease them out to other people in order to get income. I have done ploughing and harrowing and now waiting for rainfall to begin for me to plant sugarcane.
