How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life has tremendously improved in that, I'm completing the construction of my permanent house. I had started it but failed to finish due to lack of funds. When I move in, I will survive the hazards that the thatched house has exposed me to for a long time i.e sleeplessness during rainy nights and very cold temperatures. In addition, I planted one and half acres of water melon that will generate for me income in the near future after selling it.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
According to me, GiveDirectly has done well by giving me the unconditional cash transfer that I used for buying households, and construction materials among others. There is nothing wrong that GiveDirectly has done.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer on building materials such as iron sheets, timber, cement, doors and windows for completing my permanent house.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
My life is currently relaxed because I have cultivated food crops for commercial purposes. I believe the watermelons will make profits and the returns will take care of the family requirements. Prior to receiving the cash transfer, life was unpredictable. I did not have money to practice agriculture on a large scale. More so, I could not pay my children's school fees on time. However,I do believe the watermelons will make profits and these returns will take care of the family requirements. I commend GiveDirectly for this kind gesture and initiative.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I received a mobile money at 2230 GMT and when I read the message, I could not believe my eyes. I was extremely excited because this was the first time ever that I had received such an enormous amount of money at once. It made me believe that in this world there are still organisations that practice what they preach.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my first cash transfer to purchase watermelon seeds worth UGX 160000 and fertilizer worth UGX 68000. I hired a tractor worth UGX 100000 and I spent UGX 40000 to weed my groundnuts. I gave my spouse UGX 800000 to pay for our children's school fees and other home necessities like food. The balance of UGX 220000 is what I am planning to spend on purchasing weed killers and for maintaining the water melon crops.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
When I receive this money, I will use most of it to complete the construction of my house that stalled due to insufficient funds. Now that the rains have come, I will use the remaining money to buy agricultural inputs like Ground-nut and soya seeds, pesticides and hiring labour.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the night when I always have enough time for my spouse. Its a time that there are minimal interuptions hence creating a good bond between me and my spouse.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced is lack of money. This is because of a prolonged dry season which affected our agricultural practices. Agriculture is our major source of income so with the dry spell, our household income went down.
