How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My dream has always been to own have livestock most importantly dairy cow since in my village they are a richer source on wealth. The daily cow I bought with my first transfer was producing 2 liters a day.I recently added another one boost the produce to 7 litres a day. With Ksh 210 a day after selling this litters of milk at 30 KES. I will be to pay school fees for my children who are in primary school without struggling much. I am grateful to GiveDirectly for giving me and opportunity of offering my children a quality education which I have always desired for them.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly did well through giving unconditional money directly to poor household in my village. At the community entry stage sensitization was done to help us make right decision in spending our transfers. As a result our living standards have improved since all grass thatched house were turned into iron sheets. In addition I appreciate that fact that GiveDirectly came with the idea of issuing mobile phones because today they are beneficial to us in terms of communicating with friends, relatives and transacting money from our Mpesa account most especially to the majority of us whom didn't afford to purchase mobile phone by then. There is nothing they did bad because all that promise GiveDirectly was achieved.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent KES 28,000 from my second transfer to purchase a dairy cow. I aim to rear it with the one I had purchased with the first transfer. This means my production of milk shall raise from 2 litters to 7 litters that I will sell to my neighbors and use the sales to pay school fees for my two children who are in primary school. I also purchased some building materials such as paints to put up fixtures to my permanent house which was under construction for a while. The remaining amount a bought food and clothing for my family members .

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money is great news to me because I am planning to use part of the money to buy a cow. I will also finish constructing my house and the remaining amount shall be used in buying more stock for my mitumba (second-hand cloth) business.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am happiest in the evening because this is the time that I take a rest from the days activities.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship that I have ever faced in my life was when I was about to deliver my baby in June 2018. It was a challenge for me because I did not have any money to hire a taxi and we were forced to sell a goat we had because the taxi driver had initially refused to take me to the hospital. The biggest lesson I learned from this event is that it is important for a person to have an emergency fund set aside for any event that can happen from time to time.
