How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Life is much different in that I have constructed a house. This is something that I would not have achieved in the near future. It would have taken me over 10 years to construct a house.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly does well to send people cash transfers to spend unconditionally. There is no fault that I can point out that GiveDirectly has committed.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second cash transfer to construct a two roomed permanent house.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
My life has significantly improved since receiving the cash transfers. I acquired a motorcycle that will earn the household daily income. Prior to receiving this cash transfer, we depended entirely on farming which was risky. More so, I used to hire motorcycles to earn income as a boda-boda cyclist. However, GiveDirectly has made it possible for me to own a motorcycle which will earn me more income.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I received the mobile money message at night and I was overjoyed because this was a blessing in disguise. I never envisioned that GiveDirectly could send me this cash transfer as earlier communicated.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I paid a loan of UGX 100000 and I spent UGX 50000 to purchase clothes. I spent UGX 1550000 to purchase a second hand used motorcycle.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means we are going to construct a house with iron sheets. Getting thatching grass now has become a challenge and its very expensive. I also plan to buy some piece of land because my father just gave me one acre which is not enough for me to do agriculture to feed my household.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the afternoon. This is because its the time we have our lunch, when I see my wife happy I get happy too.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in my life is when my wife had just conceived. She was so sickly yet I did not have enough money for treatment. Stress was soo mush that I even developed ulcers.
