How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is better now because, My standards of living have improved in terms of feeding resulting to a healthier life. I have started a livestock business with the transfers and I'm able to earn daily income that supports my household. I also bought a motorbike that has helped me run my business smoothly and avoid high costs of transport. I managed to pay off the land mortgage acquired by my father. Before receiving these transfers, I was burdened by school fees, feeding and I did not have enough land to farm on and I could not produce enough food to feed my household.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly has done well to provide me with transfers that has helped me acquire Land, motorcycle, pay school and start a business of selling livestock. In my community, These transfers have helped people construct houses, Buy solar systems, livestock among others. During enrollment process, They did not segregate instead enrolled the whole community and whoever met the selection criteria benefited from the program. However, GiveDirectly did everything well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
During the past, My father had mortgaged our land for luxurious life he lived and left us with a small piece of land to farm on. During my growing days, we suffered a lot looking for land from neighbors and when worst came we were forced to hire land that was very expensive. When I received this money, I paid off the mortgage my father acquired on the land and it took ugx 1000000. I paid school fees of about ugx 200000, Feeding ugx 132000 and started a livestock business at ugx 300000.
