How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
When I got into an agreement with the seller of the land, we agreed that I would give him some part of the total amount on a regular basis. This, in plans, looked easy but when I was met with other responsibilities requiring money, there was a challenge. I am glad that these transfers ensured that I kept my part of the bargain and even decided to fully pay it. Now I am a proud owner of the piece of land. I am also happy that through the help of these transfers, I was able to finish building my house. I am grateful to GiveDirectly for all these!
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I loved that the GiveDirectly staff were fair in their dealings and everyone in the village received their transfer. There was no favouritism whatsoever. Everything was done accordingly.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the whole amount of the transfer to pay a debt incurred after buying a piece of land. I was able to top up the transfer to allow me to pay off the pending debt. I am glad that the piece of land is now fully mine, thanks to GiveDirectly.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the house that I have since built and the cow that I bought with GiveDirectly transfers. These two investments have brought tremendous change in my life and that of my entire family. The comfort that came with the new house has seen me raise a very happy family while the milk that will be produced once the dairy cow has its first calf shall be of great assistance to us as a family. This will improve the living standards of my family going forward.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I felt so happy the moment I received money from GiveDirectly. I never believed that someone could give us such huge amounts of money. I instantly informed my wife about this and she was so delighted as well. We already had plans on how we were going to spend our money and we got down to work as soon as we had withdrawn the money.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I used part of my recent transfer to complete my newly built house and used the remaining amount to buy a dairy cow. I did not have a cow of my own and we were living in a very small grass thatched house with my family. This transfer has since seen me build a new and spacious house and I could not feel any happier than this. Once the cow that I bought has its first calf, it shall be great relief to the family in terms of daily expenditure. This shall definitely lead to improved living standards for my family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My family has lived in a grass- thatched house since I got married ten years ago.Since the family is growing,I decided to build another house.Halfway through,I ran short of funds to complete the construction.I have also been keeping a relative's cow for a few years now to help provide milk for my children but I know that eventually he will come for it.Receiving this money will therefore enable me complete my new house as well as buy my own cow which will be to me a form of investment that can come in handy to help in the years to come.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Am happiest during the day-from mid morning till afternoon. This is the time when am working in my farm.It is something that I enjoy doing because this has provided for my family all their needs all through the years.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced is raising a family without any stable means of income. The needs of the family keep growing as time goes by as the children increase in number and as they grow. They require food, clothing as well as fees for their studies.Since I do not have any formal employment that guarantees income at the end of the month,am forced to fully depend on my small farm whose proceeds are hardly enough to meet all these needs.
