Our dream is to live in a better house but financial challenges have made us live in a grass thatched house. I am happy that the transfers from GiveDirectly will enable me to build a habitable house. This will cost $470 of our transfers. Our area is not arable and we are left to depend on livestock farming to support our family. I will spend $230 of the transfer to buy ten goats which will be our source of family income in the future.I will also spend the transfers from GiveDirectly to buy my family food and clothing.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Irrespective of the numerous challenges that we are going through, I am happy that we have been enjoying good health for the last six months. This motivates me to work harder and support my family of four.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Climate change has significantly contributed to our household struggle and misery. We have been fighting perennial food shortage and water for the last five years. Our area is gradually changing to be arid land making it difficult for us to cultivate and access water for domestic use. It is sad that we walk for about four kilometers to fetch water. This is worsening our stay here. Skipping meals is not new to us, it is part of our survival strategy. I am lactating and this makes my life extremely difficult. I have to eat well to make my little daughter grow fast and healthy. The irony is that I am struggling to put food on the table for my family of four.
