Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference so far is that I have cleared an old debt of 3years thus repossessing our farm land that will increase my food production. I am very grateful that this transfer has relieved me of that debt burden. This debt was bothering me alot and I had nowhere else to run for assistance. Luckily, GiveDirectly launched at the right time.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I heard the phone buzzing in the morning. When I checked the phone, I was amazed at what I saw. It was unbelievable because GiveDirectly had sent me an enormous amount of money which I have never held in my life before.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent UGX 1000000 to pay off a loan and I lent a community member UGX 500000 to clear his medical bills and in return I possessed his farm land as collateral. I spent UGX 200000 to purchase windows and cement.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
When I receive this money, I will renovate the house we are currently living in. Our house has no cement floor which makes insects invade it easily. So I will plaster the floor and the walls then paint it to give it a nice look. I will also build a simple ironsheets house for our children because where they are currently sleeping is not in good shape. It is a grass thatched house which leaks whenever it rains. So this money will give our family comfortable accommodation if all goes well.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the afternoon after doing garden work and its also the time I am relaxing.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced is lack of food which is caused due to limited land for agriculture. There is no sufficient land in this village because it was fragmented.
