How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
After using the money in the areas I had planned, I got a new goal that I feel once I get some money I will work on it. I am desiring to invest more in livestock and once I get an additional amount from any source, I will buy more goats and add them to the 10 goats which I bought using the second transfer.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
The organization is very clean and of good faith. When it came, I had only one goat but as at now I have added 10 more. I can’t single out any weakness for his organization and I pray it continues with that program to even the other villages that it will go so that they also benefit like how some of us did.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Upon withdrawing the money, I had already made a plan of investing in livestock because it’s a quick source income if well taken care of. In that regard thereof, I bought 10 goats for KES 25000.00. I also paid school fees of KES 5000.00 and KES 4000.00 for my 2 children who are in college and secondary school respectively. After settling the these issues which were giving me sleepless nights, I opted to buy a 1 acre piece of land for KES 15000.00 but I just paid a deposit of KES 7000.00 and saved the rest as I figure out which kind of business I can start with so that I get an alternative source of income.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
At the time the transfer message was sent, I was bereaving my father thus I did not see the message till the next day in the evening. And this is after hearing people saying that they received theirs. I asked my husband to confirm from my phone and he said I received the money the previous day. I felt so happy because I haven’t received such huge amount of money and I saw this as a miracle.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference is that, my husband is no longer walking long distances when doing his pastoral ministry and he does not hire means of transport. He just fuels his motorbike and leaves for mission. The other thing is that my children have an access to daily balanced food not as before when we were struggling much to make ends meet.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Upon withdrawing the money, I used KES 15000.00 to repair my husband’s motorbike which he uses in his ministry as a pastor moving from one place to another. Thereafter, I paid school fees for my college son and the other secondary school children. For the college one, I paid KES 10000.00 and for the ones in secondary and primary schools I can’t clearly remember how much I paid for them. The aim of paying for them was to ensure that they are retained in school without any problems relating to school fees so that they can concentrate in their studies. I also bought a goat for KES 5000.00 and used the rest in buying food for the family since it was a drought season.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I am living in a wrinkled house and I have been dreaming to have a better house for more than 5 years , the economic situations made me not fulfil my dream but receiving this money means I will build a very good 2bedroom house so that I can live happly like others in life.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My first son graduated from his teaching college and this has given me a ray of hope in life that he will soon get a job and help me in the household.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Poverty! I have many problems with little income. I am a charcoal business woman and my husband has no job. I need to pay school fees for my children and feed thm.. Getting food and water is a big challenge in our area. All water pans have dried up and we depend on motorcycle operators to bring water from Bamba town which is more than 20 kilometres away and this commodity is very expensive. Each 20 liters jerican of water costs 100 KES.
