How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Before , I had lost hope of building my homestead and putting up a decent house in it . This is because the income from causal jobs that we did as a living was meager to support such projects . My husband had to ignore the requests from the elders of having a homestead as the customs required him to do so since he was the eldest . Having his homestead would permit his younger brother to build theirs as well . Today, we stay in a newly built house at our homestead with the courtesy of GiveDirectly. I am proud we have new iron roofed house like the rest of my village members .
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion , GiveDirectly alleviated poverty in my community through giving donations in form of money to most of the poorest individuals . The money was helpful since most of the beneficiaries strived to make their lives better by acquiring what they lacked most such as purchasing household expenditures , building new house and livestock too.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent 30,000 KES of my second transfer to complete the construction of my new has which I had started its construction with the first transfer . I am happy since I live in a decent spacious house in my own homestead which before was a dream . The remaining amount my spouse paid dowry for me . Since I consented to stay with him , he hasn't gotten the opportunity to visit my parent to seek approval for our relationship due to financial constraints
