How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than it would have been if I never received the transfer in that I have restored my main source of income which was farming that had collapsed due to lack of capital to sustain it. Now, I am earning some income on a daily basis that helps me cater to my family's needs. Prior to receiving this money, I lived a hopeless life because I had no means I could generate daily income to cater for my family's basic needs.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly has improved people's standards of living, for example, I have noticed in my community that most people have constructed houses, bought household items, medical attention and started businesses among others. On the other hand, I do not feel there is anything Give Directly is not doing well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the larger part of my transfer to pay school fees for my brother 40,000 KES who is in high school. Paying has enabled him to sit for his final Secondary school examination with ease. The remaining amount I have put up a gate and bought ten chicken to arrear.

What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship that I have faced in life was being separated from my wife. Raising my children as a single parent and having to work in order to provide for most of their basic needs has not been easy.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening when I come back home from work. At this time, I meet with my friends and we get to share ideas on how to improve our lives.
What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means a lot to me. I will be able to hire a tractor to plough my land, buy fertiliser and hybrid seeds so that i can engage in large scale farming.
