How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different in that, I have been in position to acquire mattresses, bed sheets, clothes for my self and children. I also built for my sons a separate iron roofed house. Previously, I used to sleep on an old matress that was not descent and my children were sleeping on mats.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly has done well to give me money that has improved my standard of living. GiveDirectly has not done anything bad, I know that I'm to receive money twice but if I could be given some top up I could have bought an acre of land for my children.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my transfer for purchasing iron sheets, 3 trips of bricks, 1 trip of sand, 6 bags of cement, a metalic door, timber, nails and paying for construction labour. I also bought a mattress, bed sheets, clothes and food.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
Life is now simple in that, I can now feed on a variety of food because I can acquire it with the support I received from GiveDirectly. Before, I used to spend a lot of time doing casual work in exchange for cash which would in turn help me buy food and other family needs.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
Receiving my first cash transfer meant a lot to me because I had no hope of acquiring basic household items. GiveDirectly supported me to change my status in the village- happiness was the order of the day.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my first cash transfer UGX 900,000 for purchasing utensils, bedding, a solar and clothes while the other part of the money, I spent it on food. The balance of UGX 800,000, I intend to spend it on purchasing a bull that I will combine with my neighbour in order to help in opening up farm land ready for crop cultivation.
