What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I bought agricultural materials such as 1 bag of urea fertilizer at an approximate amount of $43 which I plan to use in my maize garden in the coming season...I also bought some farming equipments like hoes just so that I can be able to work in the field without any challenges. Then, I bought 9 bags of maize at a total cost of $149..I have a wife and 2 kids and I thought it wise to purchase sufficient food so that there should no longer be any hunger issues. Furthermore, I bought plastic papers for my house since it has a thatched roof in preparation of the rainy season to prevent leakage..Leakage of the roof normally disturbs my peace as I spent much time awake instead of resting during the night when it is raining. Thereafter, I bought a bicycle that I will be using to run errands in the village as I fail to go to other areas due to distance..For example, my wife, Lifosina always complains about long distances when travelling to the maize mill and the bicycle will lessen this.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving these payments is that in the past, there have never been a time when I had food in excess in my house such that at times I used to sleep on an empty stomach..With the cash, I have been able to find enough food that I can now eat at least 3 times a day. Also, I now have a bicycle and the problems that I was facing or dealing with concerning transportation have all come to an end and I am living a peaceful life.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment when I received my cash transfer I was at home having conversations with my friends..When I saw the text, I was so happy and rejoiced with my wife because it was like a dream come true.

What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The challenge that I am currently facing is a financial challenge. I rely on casual jobs and i make and sell mats to earn money. The mats I make I sell them in my village and other surrounding villages but the money I make is not enough to provide all basic needs that a person needs because a each mat is sold at $1. On a daily basis, I am able just to make one mat. I have two children who are hugely affected by this because I am not able to provide adequate for them to eat. They only have two meals a day which has affected their development since they are not getting the recommended nutrients.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I was the happiest in the month of March because I had sold mats at once in my village. This made me happy because I was able to buy food which sustained my family for a week.
What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
Receiving this money will help me to buy two bags of fertilizer which will cost me $12 and rent a one and half acre farm at $40 in my village. I will plant maize on the farm so I can have adequate food the next harvest season.
