How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Previously, I slept in a grass thatched hut that leaked whenever it rained given the scarcity of grass in our village. Having recieved my second transfer, I bought construction materials that I used for constructing an iron roofed house which I am currently sleeping in. I am relieved from the leaking roof and the burden of looking for grass.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly has done well to give me money that I spent for constructing an iron roofed house. GiveDirctly has not done anything bad on my side.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer to purchase construction materials( bricks, cement, iron sheets, timber, nails) and paid for construction labour.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
I am very glad that we sleep peacefully on comfortable mattresses. We nolonger worry alot like before because I can afford to buy food for my family. In the past, I had no money to buy basic necessities like good bedding and clothes for the family. We were dressed in old wrinkled clothes.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I received this cash transfer message at midnight and I was filled with joy. I even failed to sleep afterwards because I had very many personal needs.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I hired a piece of farm land worth UGX 800000. I purchased a bicycle worth UGX 200000 and a goat worth UGX 80000. I purchased clothes, utensils and bedding all worth UGX 150000. I sent my father UGX 250000 and UGX 100000 to my sister. The balance of UGX 120000 will be spent on buying food and other basic necessities.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means building a permenent house that I will sleep in with my spouse and child. I want to build a house because it is very difficult now to find grass for thatching in our community and one has to hire a vehicle in order to look for grass which is costly for my household.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My happiest part of the day is around lunch time when I have eaten lunch. It's difficult to find what to eat due to the long drought that we experienced last year, it came with low yields. After lunch, I can now seat with my family and plan for the next day with a reluxed mind.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My biggest hardship that I face is lack of land for crop cultivation. The land we cultivate now is hired and some times a lack money for hiring which makes it a challenge to my household.
