When it comes to new goals, I have not thought of many as of yet since the previous targets that I had are still in progress, but if I could mention at least one it would be owning more livestock . This would give me the capability to rear more of the cattle for domestic use which would in turn help my family and I even with milk and in the long run for commercial benefits if we decided to sell.

I am very thankful for GiveDirectly and the project that I managed to be involved in. I insist they continue with the good work because they are really helping people like me who needed the assistance and improving our capability to sustain ourselves especially with the unconditionality of the transfers and for that I commend this program for the good work.

Well my current transfers played a very major and important role to me and my family and for this I am genuinely grateful to GiveDirectly. For instance I used a portion of the money I received to cater for four of my children school arrears of which three of them are in primary school while the last born is in kindergarten. Thereby spending a total of ten thousand kenyan shillings. Apart from that, I also opted to renovate my house since in the past during the rainy season my roof would leak making it very uncomfortable to sleep for both me and my kids. As a result of the receiving the finances, I immediately settled on fixing the roof and some parts of the house so that in case of rainfall my kids would sleep soundly. Therefore I purchased wood, ironsheets and hired a labourer who fetched ten thousand kenyan shillings for his work. In addition to that I also bought four goats where as one sold for eight thousand kenyan shillings. Lastly I also catered for food for my family of six for our sustenance.

It was exactly 9 o'clock when I have gone to the nearby water pan to fetch water for the family. Along the way, I heard continuous message alerts on my phone. I had to reach the house for my helper to check the message since I am illiterate. Upon checking I was surprised to be informed that it was the transfer from GiveDirectly. I felt very happy for receiving my transfer knowing that the problem of poor shelter will finally be forgotten.

The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am optimistic that I will be able to reside in a decent shelter with my family once I complete the construction of my new house. Previously, I was sharing a single room with my co-wife which is against our culture and we had already received constantly mocking from our neighbours.

For 3 years, I have been living in a small, leaking one-roomed house with my co-wife. This was against our tradition for two wives to share a single room, I was constantly receiving mocking from the villagers because of the condition of the house. I had desired to construct a decent and spacious one but due to the poverty conditions we are in I was not able to fulfill it. After receiving my transfer, I spent KES 15000 to purchase building poles and set aside some labor costs. I also purchased one pair of school uniforms for each of my 4 children and paying their school fees each KES 4000. They are still in primary school but it has been a long time since I paid their fees. I also used KES 5000 to purchase clothes for every member of the family, we were wearing worn-out clothes and I was embarrassed when we attended important events in the community. The remaining amount assisted me in purchasing enough food stock for the family.
