My new goal for the next four months is to buy a heifer as a remembrance of the transfers I received from this organization. Since this help won't last forever, I thought a dairy cow would be the best way to invest this money because not only will I be getting milk for consumption but also earn income by selling the surplus. The cow will also be reproducing and with no time my cowshed will be full.

The biggest difference in my life in the last four months preceding the current transfer is that I no longer strain much looking for additional cash. Through the transfers I got from Give Directly, I was able to improve my farming by purchasing enough farm inputs. For the first time since I started farming, I was able to incorporate other crops such as cabbages among other vegetables. This greatly boosted my income since I was able to satisfy different customer needs.
How do you expect your life to change in the next six months?
In the next six months, I believe that my life will have greatly improved. Since I was able to use all the required farm inputs, I believe I will have a bumper harvest. In addition to that, I will have purchased the dairy cow hence increase my livestock assets. With these two investments, I will no longer struggle to do low paying casual jobs. I can comfortably sustain myself with sales from both my dairy project and my farming activities

How is your life currently different from how it was four months ago?
My life is currently different from how it was four months ago in that I am currently an empowered farmer. I have been able to do more mechanized farming unlike before hence improving my returns which in turn gives me better living standards in terms of access to basic needs. With the help of monthly transfers from GD, I have been able to pay my children school fees on time hence giving me a peaceful mind and also humble time for my children to study. I have been able to save money through merry go round that I joined after I started receiving the monthly transfer from GiveDirectly and am certain that with the lump sum money I am going to receive will help me boost my goal of starting a business to bring in more income to my family to better our lives.

In the next four months, I will have harvested and sold my crops hence I will have money that I will use to start my new goal of livestock broking to help me generate more income within a short time to meet the ever-rising household needs with most pressing being my children fees.

I am an ambitious father who majorly depends on farming to provide for my family and always see a happy family. I have children in various schools and other family needs to take care and since farming is my backbone source of income I always mind my farming practises right from land preparation to harvesting. I majorly practise short season crop farming mainly cabbages and tomatoes to enable get money within a short time for my family needs. I had always found myself doing outdated kind of farming and always lacking behind since I had little resources to mechanise my farming hence I had low returns. The biggest difference in my daily life in the last four months is the efforts that I have gained from my monthly transfer to do more mechanised farming. I have been able to improve my ways of land preparation by using farm machines, use better quality seeds fertilizer, and agrichemicals to help me in safeguarding my crops from pest and weeds hence assuring me of better returns unlike before that will help me meet my immediate, household, and children education and get something better to save or invest in other in goals.

In the next six months, I expect to have started a business hence will have a secondary and a better source of income which will change my life positively in that access to household needs and my children school fees will be easier. I expect to have either gathered building materials or to have already started to build a new, more decent house which will be my happiness and hope of better living standards of my family.

How is your life currently different from how it was four months ago?
My current life is different from how it was four months ago because I can now pay school fees for my three children comfortably. Initially, I used to struggle to pay school fees even for one child because I used to earn peanuts from my casual jobs.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life for the next four months?
The new goals in my life for the next four months is to start a new business. I have always desired to start cattle rearing and selling them for profit. This is a business I observed from my late father and he really succeeded in it. I want to emulate him so that I succeed like him.

The biggest difference in my daily life is that there has been an increase in the output of my vegetables and tomatoes because of the input I have used on farming. I've resorted to planting more vegetables because I have the resources and time.

I expect my life to change in the next six months for the better because we have ventured into a merry go round which I will eventually buy a new farm when my turn comes. This will enable me to do more farming and to buy cattle because my wife intends to venture into the selling of milk.

What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I have two children in secondary school and other two in primary. The biggest hardship has been in raising money to pay their school fees and cater for other domestic needs for the rest of the family. Since I mainly depend on farming to raise money, sometimes I am faced with uncertainties like change of weather and pest infestation. These factors affect the yield thus low returns.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening because this is the time I look back and reflect on the success of the plans I had laid down in the morning.
What are you planning to spend your transfer on?
I am planning to spend my monthly transfer on commercial farming. I am a short term crops farmer and at the moment I have tomato seedlings ready for transplant. Therefore upon receiving the transfer, I am planning to buy fertilizers and embark on transplant. I will also purchase maintenance pesticides for my crops. This kind of farming will enable me to take my children through school.
What is the achievement you are proudest of?
I have educated four of my children through secondary education and one of them has gone through a short course and acquired driving skills. This is the achievement I am proudest of because I have invested in my children, who in turn are going to get employed and raise their living standards thus becoming independent.
