The day that irecieved the transfer, i was just at home and that was when i recieved the alter. I was very happy and greatfull.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life will be that now i will have a much more comfortable house. The new house which i am building will have 3 bedrooms and with 5 children that will fit us.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I have a house which is just a room and i have 5 children. The house that i currently have is too small considering my family size. With my transfer, i want to build bigger House, i have paid for bricks i have also bought timber for the roof. What does receiving this money mean to you?
I am a mother of five who is in a polygamous marriage. Despite having five children, I get to struggle when trying to provide food for my husband. This is so as we do not harvest a lot and my husband's attention towards the family is divided as he also has to take care of the other family of second wife. The only way to earn some money is when we harvest and sell some produce such as pigeon peas and maize. My husband also manages a small business of selling fish to supplement the income. Hence, this money will assist us to afford a better house with iron sheets as well as our children at school as they will be writing their primary school leaving examinations soon since there is always a demand for examinations fees. I believe this money will also open up new opportunities we thought we did not have once we settle down and decide how to spend the money better.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My days are never very interesting. I usually prepare meals for my children and in my free time, I get to chat with friends and also attend the women's guild at my local church. These are the things that make me happy as I know the children have someone to take care or them and also I get to strengthen my spiritual life with fellow women.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship for my family is always shortage of food. This happens due to the inadequacy of fetilizer each farming season. Despite always farming to our full strength, we always know the harvest will be little and since we also sell some, then that means we end up with little to use as food for the rest of the year.
