Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I received the SMS notification early in the morning. I was home doing my usual chores and got so excited and rushed to the nearest MoMo agent. The route to the mobile money agent was not longer than 5 minutes. The first thing I bought was a pig and 2 goats plus some food. Those are the necessary things I could not wait to buy and I was able to all thanks to GD.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
It is safe to say that life for me is now better since I received my first transfer. I always had plans in mind but could not achieve them because I did not have the funds. I am now able to buy and the fact that I was ale to buy livestock with ease makes me so happy.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
The first transfer allowed me to achieve things I could have never thought I would achieve. I bought a pig worth 70 $, 2 goats for 80 $, utensils worth 30 $, a mattress for 35 $, clothes for 20 $, paid a 55 $ debt that I had and bought food worth 60 $. I was in a very big need of livestock and that is the first thing I bought.

What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
I am planning to buy livestock in the first installment which I will be buying a pig for 70$ and a goat for 50$ to give me fertiliser, I will also be buying house materials like a matress, furnitures, clothes and some food to eat. In the second installment I am planning to buy a cow which will cost 350$ and i will pay life insurance for 6$ and the balance i will save it as I am planning that i will keep using it in my daily life and help me out in the future. Receiving this money from Givedirectly means coming out of poverty because it will help me get the things i have never dreamed of having and it will help me have a brighter future as i will be able to have fertiliser from the livestock and i can be able to sell them whenever i will be needing some money.
What is the happiest part of your day?
It has been 2 months since i started herding a cattle which I hope will soon start giving me some organic fertiliser to use in my land and this will be very beneficial in my harvest and I was lucky to get modern stoves which was given out in my village and this is helping me because it wasn’t easy for me to come back from the farm and go search for firewood but now I am able to cook without having many challenges.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Not having enough land of my own have been a major challenge in my life because I am living alone without any support, I struggle to rent some land to cultivate what to eat and I don’t have any livestock to give me fertiliser for my crops as I had a cow which died a year ago and later on I bought a pig which also died and this was a very bad loss which happened to me. Currently I am becoming weaker as days go by and this is becoming a constraint for me to keep moving forward alone in my life as I am no long capable of working for others to get money to use in my daily life.
