How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than how it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I purchased a posho mill machine. My neighbors were walking for quite a long distance to find a posho mill. I found this as a business opportunity, I crap it by purchasing the machine. I had always wished to start this project but I didn't had money to do it. I had the building already the capital was the big challenge. I do depend on small scale farming and the harvest that we get is only for consumption, I didn't had an extra income. Currently I run the business myself, I earn a daily profits of 300ksh per day. I have never own any business before nor even make a profit of such amount. My family nowadays never lack food to eat or clothes to wear, I also save some amount to add stock to my business. I have devoted much of my time on this project.I will ensure that this project become the best in our neighborhood. GiveDirectly has changed my living standard and given me a sorce of daily income.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I saw the GiveDirectly message at 9a.m in the morning when I had just finished washing utensils. I thanked the almighty God for bringing my dreams of owning a maize mill close.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
I have always wanted to construct a maize mill since so many of us walk long distances to have our maize milled for ugali which is our staple food. With the maize mill being ready, villagers will not have to walk far to have their maize milled and my business will also boom since it will be the only one in the village. Thank you GiveDirectly for making my dreams come true.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I constructed a house to which will host my maize mill business. I have been looking around and soon I will be buying the mill so that I start off the business. I saw a gap in the business since many people eat ugali yet go very far to have their maize milled.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that income for my family will dramatically increase and thus leading to a better living standard. I have been yearning to purchase a posho mill and open a shop at my compound because I am adjacent to a nearby center. Hence, the businesses will help boost the little income that I normally attain from my small crop and livestock farming. As a result, I will be able to purchase more decent furniture and quality food among other basic needs.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning when I wake up feeling happy and healthy because I have been suffering from high blood pressure. This is a sign of a promising day where I can manage to effectively handle household chores and other daily activities.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I lost my husband when my children were still young. As a result, I had to struggle in raising, caring, and paying school fees for them as a single parent. Unfortunately, I could not manage to acquire adequately pay for their studies, something that forced them not to pursue their studies beyond Grade 12. Hence, the passing on of my husband tends to be the biggest hardship I have faced in life.
