Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I finally managed to buy a dairy cow. I no longer rely on milk from my children who have barely enough for their own use. I feel good because I no longer burden them with my expenses like I used to previously. Normally I am the one who should be supporting them. It feels nice to be in a position to be of great assistance to your family. I thank GiveDirectly for enabling me to do that.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received the money It dawned on me that I was finally going to live better. I thought to myself that at last, I was going to have a source of income if I bought a dairy cow. I, therefore, planned very carefully on how to acquire a good one. I am so glad that currently, I have a cow. I decided to save the rest of the amount as I continue to figure out other avenues of how I would start new income-generating activities.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent the money I received from Give Directly to buy a dairy cow. I am the breadwinner for my family therefore I needed to find means of how my family would get basic needs such as food. Being an old person I am no longer able to do casual jobs. Therefore when I got transfers from GiveDirectly preferred to keep a cow that I can easily feed without too much straining. I am currently producing milk that I sell to a dairy cooling plant, this gives me enough money to sustain my family. I use the remaining liters for household consumption.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have a grandchild in secondary school under my care. She was deserted by her mother at a very young age and I took the responsibility of caring for her.I will use a part of this money to pay her school fees.Receiving this money will also enable me to buy a cow as well as rebuild my house.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening. This is the time that I take a rest after doing my duties for the day. Most of my day is spent in my garden and by evening I feel tired.I therefore take time to rest as I prepare the evening meal
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced is paying school fees.I have a grandchild who I have been paying school fees for after she was deserted by her mother. It has been a struggle considering that at my age I am unable to do most farmwork. Most of the time I depend on my sons who also have families to help me and when they cannot I resort to borrowing.Because of this,I even had to sell my cow and this has led to me having to be more dependent on my children
