How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I do not have any new plan. My focus will be to see to it that the resources that I purchased by the proceeds from the second transfer is well taken care of. I did buy a dairy cow and three goats. Going into this adventure will need more consentration.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly's presence in our lives has turned a round our economic status for better. In terms of what she didn't do well, nothing at all which I can sight.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Being a charcoal vendor and my husband a traditional herbalist, I decided to incorporate a dairy cow and 3 sheep as a way of supplementing on our income using the second wave of the GiveDirectly cash. Besides, my family of nine did have enough to feed on courtesy of GiveDirectly cash transfer. The remaining cash went a long way clearing school fees for my two children who had school fees balances and even bought them new outfits. Thank you GiveDirectly for making my dream a reality.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I saw the message confirming that I had received money from GiveDirectly at around 12:45 pm that day. I was instantly filled with joy that I cannot explain with words. I informed my helper who was at home with me and he was equally overjoyed. I later on called my husband who was not at home at that time and shared the good news with him He was so happy as well and could not wait to come home and be happy with me.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my life is the investments that I made already. From the business that I was able to inject KES 10000 to the livestock that I bought and the poultry project that I started. Initially all these investments were not there and I would have to rely entirely on my husband to support the family. My shop keeping business too had collapsed but we are now happy to have revived it and with these other major investments. I am sure that our three children will have a brighter future and we will find it easy to provide for them including payment of school fees for them.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used KES 16000 to buy a cow and used another 11000 to buy a bed and mattress. I used another KES 10000 to stock my shop which was almost crumbling due to lack of commodities to sell and the remaining amount was used to start a poultry keeping business. I made all these investments so as to be able to increase the amount of income and assets that can help our family financially and also support my husband who works as a traditional herbalist. We can confidently say that we are a step towards being financially independent and that our three children will no longer lack basic commodities and we will be in a position to pay their school fees in time too.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have been sleeping down for a while now and because I am pregnant making floor my bed is not good for me when it comes to my health. Receiving this money will enable me to buy a bed and this will therefore reduce the number of times I visit the hospital due to backaches that come with uncomfortable sleeping. Aside from that, I would also like to start keeping livestock that can help plow my farms during rainy seasons to save me the money and energy that I usually use for farming. Another important thing is making sure that my family always have enough food in the house to avoid sleeping hungry. Since I will get 110,000 KES, I plan to spend it in the following manner: 15,000 KES on bed, set aside 20,000 KES for food, use 56,000 KES to buy two cows and keep the rest of the money for merry go round.
What is the happiest part of your day?
During December holiday we came together as a family and had a great time. The get-together brought joy and happiness in my life because I was able to see some family members whom I have not seen for a long time.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My main challenge is lack of a bed to sleep on. I am heavily expectant and with my condition sleeping on the floor is giving me health issues, mostly backaches. I spend a lot of money going to the hospital every other day that I can put to another use. I am afraid if I continue like this I might have complications during delivery.
