How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I don't have any new goal at the moment, I used my first transfer in purchasing building materials (iron sheet and nails) so that I would be able to construct a decent house for my family, this is because the one that I had was small, but I was unable to expand it due to financial constraints, I used my second transfer in buying timber and a sheep.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDrectly has uplifted the lives of many people in my society by giving out the unconditional transfer without discriminating against anyone in the village, it is an exemplary show of kindness and we are grateful for it, so far I have not witnessed any gap in their work.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I always had a dream of building a decent house for my family, but all this was not realized due to financial constraints, our area is a semi-arid place hence the crops are not doing well due to harsh weather conditions, therefore when I received the second transfer I used it in buying timber and other building material worth KES 29,000. I then bought a sheep at KES 2100, lastly, I saved a sum of KES 10,000. I am grateful for the transfer that brought so much happiness to my family as a whole.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was early in the morning when I received a message from GiveDirectly as I was in the middle of my first school lesson. I distinctly heard my phone vibrates but could not bother checking, but as soon as my lesson was over, I could not resist the urge to know the content of the message. It was a great moment for me as I could not hold back the expression of the excitement I had in the office. I thanked God for the promise that had just been honored by GiveDirectly. I had to keep checking and reconfirming my account balance and as I had all plans set, I did not withdraw the same day but after a week when I needed to make my first purchases.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the huge investment in livestock after receiving my first transfer. This was a great move for me as I now have great hope of producing enough milk for my household and even a surplus to sell. I am thankful to GiveDirectly for the great support and still looking forward to the second transfer so that I can start other new projects.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
In our extended family, it is only my grandmother who had been having dairy cows that have always supplied us with milk whenever they are lactating. During the dry seasons, I had been spending a lot on buying milk from the neighborhood since I have never had a cow of my own. Receiving transfer came at the right time to help me in buying a heifer that was KES24000, and also added a goat at KES3000. The two will be helpful as I will soon be able to produce milk enough for my household and also sell the surplus. I also needed to construct a new house as I had been living in a small one acting both as a kitchen and the main house. I managed to only purchase 24 iron sheets currently in store as I await the second transfer to facilitate the construction work. Having been brought up in a large family, I had to look back to my four younger siblings who are still in school at the moment and my mother could not manage paying all their school fees. I had to give out KES 7000 towards my brother's school fees who was indeed thankful for that consideration.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Recieving this money means I would build my house and start a shop in a nearby place to me.My profession is teaching and I have never been employed, currently I work in an academy which pays me very little money that cannot do any project for me, since I have to always buy food for myself. I plan to spend KES 70,000 to build a descent house of 21 iron sheets.Spend KES 30,000 to buy stock for the shop. I will use the remaining to buy food.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am happy during the night when I come from school and since I love reading bible this is the time i can relax in my sit and start exploring the bible.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Since I cleared my college, I decided to stay alone in the house and start cooking for myself, life has been hard since I have everything. My house is made of grass and it's a big shame for someone who is employed to stay in such condition,I have a desire to build a descent house that will even host my visitors when they come home.Givedirectly have really come at the time we needed help most.
