My life is different than it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I was in a position to prepare my farm on time and also able to buy fertilizers and quality seeds for planting. I felt so happy because this was the first time to plant at the right season. I used to do planting late since ploughing my farm could take much time. Plants needs to be timed well in order to get a good harvest. What also contributed is that I didn't had money to use tractor for ploughing the farm, Secondly I was also using poor quality seeds because I didn't had money to buy the right seeds. When I received the second transfer I plough my farm on time and also bought quality seeds. I was in a position to get good harvest. My family has enough food unlike before. I will sell some maize to get some money to buy other basic needs including paying school fees for my children.I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed our living standard.

In my opinion GiveDirectly does well by giving money to the poor in the community to build better houses and to buy dairy cows. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well.

I spend the money I received from GiveDirectly on ploughing my farm and also bought fertilizers and seeds.I was lucky to do preparation on time and planted on time. I also paid school fees for my children who are studying in various schools. This made them improve their performance since the never missed lessons.They used to be sent home to collect the school fees and this was affecting their performance. The rest of the money I bought food food for the family and bought a goat.

I spent most of my transfer on building a two roomed 26 Iron roofed semi permanent house. This is because I had was an old grass thatched house built 42 years ago. Some of my first transfer was spent on a heifer because l had only one before. This will act as long term investment because it will multiply and secure my kids education from milk production. I also spent part of my transfer on a sack of maize meal because there's been food scarcity for long time in our area because due to prolonged dry spells.I am grateful because GD money came on time and the maize bought will sustain us for a longer period of time. Previously, we would rely on my husband who works as a casual mason for food and we used to eat from hand to mouth.
