How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
In the near future when I'll get a chance I will be excited to build a rental home that will enable me to support my grandchildren's education because their mother doesn't have any source of income.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion Givedirectly does well by giving as cash transfer
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Due to a lack of protection for my belongings and some rodents that were bothering me, I utilized a portion of my second transfer to complete my house, which I had begun during the previous transfer, by purchasing four red metal doors.Despite my unemployment, I utilized a significant portion of the transfer to cover my three grandchildren's tuition fees, as their mother did not have any source of income .In order to prevent my family from going hungry in the future days, I utilized the part of the remaining money for agriculture and also purchased a new 3000 liter water tank because I can no longer get water on my own due to my health status therefore Givedirectly has really help me improve my life and am grateful about it.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The day I got my first transfer from GiveDirectly was truly special. I was out working on the farm, tending to the crops when suddenly, I felt my phone buzz in my pocket. Since I couldn't read, I rushed over to my sister's place nearby, my heart racing with excitement. You see, I had been waiting for this moment, eagerly anticipating the promised money that week. As I showed her the message, she smiled and nodded a confirmation that the money was indeed in my account. I couldn't hold back my happiness; a downpour of joy washed over me. In that instant, I felt a renewed sense of hope and possibility. I knew deep down that this support would bring me closer to turning my dreams into reality, and it was a powerful step toward creating a positive impact in my life.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
I had been struggling for years to complete the construction of my spacious house, a dream that had been put on hold due to a lack of funds. But when I received the assistance, everything changed. With the money, I was finally able to finish building my dream home, a comfortable and spacious house that I had always envisioned. Now, I can confidently and happily host and spend time with my grandchildren, a luxury I could not afford before when I was confined to a small, inadequate space. The cash transfer not only transformed my living conditions but also brought a sense of fulfillment and happiness to my life, allowing me to create precious memories with my loved ones in a home we can all enjoy.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
When I first received the money from GiveDirectly, I couldn't believe my luck. I had started building my house a while back, but I had to stop because I didn't have enough money to buy all the materials. But with the cash transfer, I finally had the means to complete it. I can't say how much I spent on it; old age seems to blur my memory a bit. Nevertheless, what matters is that my house is now standing tall and strong, all thanks to GiveDirectly's support. I can't help but feel a deep sense of satisfaction every time I step inside my completed house. It's more than just a roof over my head; it's a place where my children and grandchildren can gather comfortably. The spacious rooms will be perfect for them when they come to visit. I remember the old days when we used to crowd in a small, cramped space whenever they came over. But now, I have a home that can truly accommodate all of them. I am grateful beyond words for the help I received, and I look forward to making countless cherished memories within these walls.

What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
I am a widower living alone . My children live at Kaloleni and they do not care about my wellbeing. I do casual jobs but because I am aged I can not do any hard activities. Most of the time I go without food. The house is also not in good condition. It has three rooms but lacks doors and the walls have no mud. This affects me during wind season. I will use $ 500 to renovate the house and make it permanent. I will also use $400 to buy goats 10 goats as an investment. This will help me have food in future.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I have been struggling getting food for long. I have depended on neighbors for survival because my age does not allow me to engage on hard activities. On April we received rain in the community and I planted maize crops on my two acre piece of land. The maize is almost ready . I am happy because soon I will have enough food .
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I am a widower living alone and lack reliable source of income. I do casual jobs but due to my age I cannot do much. Most of the time I go without food. Lack of reliable source of food is the challenge I am currently facing in life.
