How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I am Mamie Varney from Duplicate Village, Bomi county Liberia. I decided to take my husband to hospital for medical check up.He been sick for the past three years and doctors advised that he should visit the hospital monthly for check up. I saved the balance money for emergency purpose and payment of my Kids second semester tuition.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, Givedirectly is a creditable organization. I was told that I will receive cash transfer in four installment and I did received all the cash transfer according to schedule. The most interesting thing I noticed about Givedirectly is that their staffs are very committed to during their Job. They don't accept gifts and they always follow up to make sure that I receive cash transfer. I am so excited to see such a creditable organization in Liberia and went to appreciate those who contributed in helping me take my husband to hospital for medical treatment monthly and payment of my kids tuition. May the good God bless you all.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
If I receive a cash transfer from GD, I intend to start a business on my own that will help me raise profit to pay my children school fees. Even though I am currently burning char coal and at the same time involved with subsistence farming (cassava farm), but the cash flow from these activities bring in are limited to start a formalize business and pay my children school fees. However, a cash transfer gift from Givedirectly will help tailored my desire to educate my children. More besides, I was only able to stopped in the 1st grade because of the civil war in Liberia in 1990 that force me into early marriage to fend for me and my family (parents). The man that I got married to could afford money that could support my family (parents and siblings), and that my parents were forced to allowed he takes me to marriage so as to meet our daily needs. Since my early marriage stopped me from achieving my education goals, I intend to do it for my children.
What is the happiest part of your day?
What makes me happy in the past six months is when a friend of mine, Musu Siaffa presented me with two buckets of rice for me and my family in July of this year. The gift was given me immediately after the 2:00 p.m. prayers on Friday. Even though I had soup prepared already and was planning to cook fufu because I didn't had any money to buy rice.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship that I am faced with right now is to cater to my children school fees and provide them the means to be able to learn and not get into early childhood marriage as I experienced during my upbringing. Taking care of them worries me everyday, even though I am managing that they attend the only public elementary school located in Kpagbola that does not adequately provide them the quality of education, but getting money to send them to a better school in Monrovia will make me feel happy instead. Because if they attend the schools that are in Monrovia, it will also reduce the risk that they might easily get attracted to boys that might proposed marriage to them. Also being aware of our tradition, I wouldn't be able to stopped the marriage, but I can rather averred by keeping them far from distraction.
