How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I am a groundnut farmer, like most of my neighbours. We would try to save money to make a real difference to our lives before GD came to our community. The money was never enough. Most of us could barely afford to feed ourselves the whole year. Since these transfers came in, we have built houses. For most people in my village, building an iron sheet house was just a dream and yet now almost everyone has one because of the transfers. They have truly changed our lives. We eat better, even the children now carry backpacks when going to school and are able to dress better.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Giving us money directly has been a very huge help. It has made a difference in our lives. Alot of my neighbours have built houses because this money we are given is money we could not manage to find on our own before but now have.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I have spent my second transfer on a mattress, food, and the rest will go towards finishing building my house.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
This was my best and most exciting moment of my life. I felt relieved of my financial difficulties because honestly I was going through hard times.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Unlike before I now have enough food and I am eating 3 times a day. Before this transfer, I used to eat once a day. Iam really grateful to GD for this transfer for it has improved my family affairs.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Well I spent my first transfer on buying 12 bags of maize for consumption. The other part of the cash was used in purchasing iron sheets. I intend to build a proper house with this transfer. Iam sure I will complete this project when i get my second transfer.
