How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is very different than it would have been if I never received the cash transfer. I was able to buy enough food for my family (5 bags of maize), I had no blankets and clothes but I now have enough blankets in my home and enough cloths. I had no pots or enough plate but I have now bought plates and pots for my home. If I never received this help my family would still be struggling in terms of clothes, food and we would still be sleeping uncomfortably on the floor. If I never received the cash transfer from GD I would not have enough money to start building my own house.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion GD is doing well in helping the poor. My family has been helped so much by GD. Before receiving the cash transfers from GD we slept on a mat on the floor which was very uncomfortable, we had no food to eat and only had good food like meat once in a while, we had no cloths and repeated the same clothes over and over again. After receiving the help from GD my family and I now sleep on mattresses, we have enough food and managed to buy 5 bags of maize. My family is now a happy family. I have not seen anything GD is not doing well yet.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I have spent my transfer to buy clothes and saved the rest. From my transfer I was able to use k25,000 to buy clothes for me and my child because we did not have enough clothes. I have saved the rest of the money so that I can buy cement, window flames and other house equipments to build a house. I am building a house because paying house rent every month is very costly . My family and I were asked to leave our previous house because the landlord did not like the idea of me staying with my sick mother in law. We are now renting a new house but have decided to build our own house.
