How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I have used the transfers to buy building materials such as windows, steel doors, iron sheets and nails which I am going to use to establish my own home. As a result, my dignity is going to be restored and the other women from the community will begin to treat me with a lot of respect.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well in giving transfers to the less fortunate members of the community. Through the transfers, it transforms people's lives positively in that every recipient is allowed to use the transfer to do what they have been desiring for a long time. There is nothing that GiveDirectly does not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer on buying building materials such as steel doors, windows, nails, iron sheets which I am planning to use to build a new house in my own homestead. For a long time, my in-laws have been pressuring us to move out of the main home and create space for the younger bother's in laws to build their houses. This had made me not to be at peace with myself. I have, therefore, been longing to have my own home because according to our culture, a women is only respected when she owns a home. In my homestead, I will be more at peace since there will be no one to quarrel me anymore.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference is that moving forward, I will have my own home unlike before I used to stay with my father-in-law and freedom was not guaranteed. I felt like my life was stagnant and there was no progress at all. The fact that I will for once be independent brings so much joy in my life and makes me want to cry out my heart to the Lord for He has shown me mercy when I least expected.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was at around 6 am on the 6th of November, I was not yet awake but the buzz of my phone ringing with a new message got me up. I first got on my knees to thank God for the new day and did not bother to check the message immediately having assumed that it was the normal Safaricom messages. I carried on with my house chores as usual up to around 7:30 am when I decided to look into my phone. To my amusement, it an Mpesa indicating that I had received money from GD. I busted out in tears of joy for I knew that my long-awaited plan to build a home for my family is finally going to be accomplished.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I live in my father-in-law's compound and this has bothered me for quite some time now. My mother-in-law is so possessive and all she wants is to see me around her 24hours a day. This kills my economic growth for I cannot even run a small business to earn an income. My husband stays in a faraway city where he works as a handyman. Upon receiving my transfers, I called him and we made an agreement to purchase building materials towards our building project for our home which has taken quite some time to start due to insufficient funds. We decided that during the December holidays when he travels back home we will launch the project.
