How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I can now finally have a better house. I used to live in a very small structure that I would not even term as a house. I considered myself homeless. I can now own a better house as well as cattle, an oxen plough and also start my own business.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Give Directly has done well to give us money for our own personal projects. We have all really improved our lives. I have seen nothing wrong that Give Directly has done.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I have not spent my transfers yet, I only spent 2000 KES for my medical bill, but I plan to use the transfers to open up a retail shop. I intend to buy commodities such as flour and sugar and resell in my village, so I can have a sustainable income and I will feel as though I put my transfers into good use. Secondly, I intend to use my transfers to purchase an oxen plough. I bought cattle with my first transfers, and so I feel it will be in order to own a plough too so that I don't have to hire out from people whenever I need to plant or plough my land. Hiring out a plough in my village costs 200 KES, which can be expensive if I have to hire out on a daily basis. If I own my own plough, then I will not need to spend so much money to hire one, instead I will even hire out my plough to people so I can make money out of it too. Finally, I will spend my transfers to buy myself a bed. I have an old traditional bed that is known as a "mwaketi bed" in my dialect. It is sort of like rigs and sticks joined together to form a structure like a bed. I have had this bed for a long time. I want a comfortable and beautiful timber bed, and so I will spend my transfers to purchase a bed.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
All the projects we have started looks great and can proudly say that they are all the big differences to have happened in our lives. comming to the biggest difference in my life is the construcyionof a new house which is amost conplete at the moment. this will relieve me of the confined preassure of my children who have been lacking a good space to read and sleep especially during th rainy season since the older srtructure was leaking.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
Taking back my mind to the moment we realized that the promise we were given by GiveDirectly came to pass always makes me shade some tears. It was the best day ever in my life, the shortest day which seemed to have ended on a half-day due to the great joy and internal celebration we had in our hearts. we decided to keep it to ourselves since at then we weren't sure whether other villagers had received. To keep ourselves out of their curiosity, we pretended as if we never received until we confirmed that it had happened to every other person whose door was marked during registration. That was the time when we came out celebrating. We saw the hopes and ideas we had been having coming to pass and the reason to really thank GiveDirectlty for delivering on their great promise.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
Having been living in an old, small mud-walled and grass-thatched house with my family members I saw it a first priority to sepend a good percentage of the, I spent the money I received from GD in buying 2 cows - our major problem is source of food, so with oxen you can be sure of enough food, woods 2500 KES, 10 + 12 iron sheets 10000 KES - had a very small house witnessed am now completing the construction of my new house, labor 5000 KES, planning to buy a plough

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means I will finish building my house which had stalled due to financial constraints. I will also buy oxen and an ox plough to help me farm, this will increase my yield and ensure I have enough food for me and my family.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening when my children come back from school. We share a meal and talk about how our day was. This makes me very happy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in my life is lack of a stable source of income. This affects my ability to provide enough food and other basic needs for me and my family especially when I do not get enough harvest from my farm.
