Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was so excited when I received my transfer. My life was full of struggles but the transfer brought joy to me. I was very happy when I received a message of my transfer and joined my fellow women who were singing songs of praise.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Currently I don't have a house of my own but GD gave me hope that it is possible to build one. I managed to buy iron sheets because I am planning to build one. This has brought so much joy to me. I have also managed to pay school fees for my child. I could have not managed to do this all by myself. I also have enough food because of GD.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I don't have a house of my own. I am planning to build a house such that I bought 24 iron sheets in readiness for this. I was also struggling with hunger and I bought 5 bags of maize for food processing. I also bought beddings such as a blacket and bed sheets. I also paid school fees for my child who is at a secondary school. I am so grateful.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
This money means a reduction of problems that I have been facing recently. I believe the main issue of poor house and lack of beddings as well as other household items will come to an end. After my husband died in 2015, the relatives took away all my property and I was chased without anything to carry back home. I have been struggling to feed myself and children. Now am just selling fruits and on a good day I make around MK1000.00 which I just use for a day. I believe this money will help me to start a new life as things have been hard of late. Am very happy to be enrolled and I cant wait for the money to be in.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am happy to be surrounded by relatives, I know that for every problem I may have, they will always be there for me despite unavoidable conflicts. I also thank God because since 2015 when I was chased by in-laws, there has never been a moment where I lacked food for many days. All these things make me a happy person.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Life has changed nowadays where everyone is looking out after themselves. Despite being close to family members, there are always quarrels whenever there are financial problems around. Hence, having no adequate source of income is a cause of many problems. There is always little food for the family, fewer clothes and as the children grow there is anxiety on where I can get their school fees from.
