How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I am a fisherman but I'd never had a canoe of my own. Secondly, I have also been planning to increase the size of my house but due to the hardships, I have not been able to. Fortunately for me, I was placed on the GiveDirectly cash transfer program. Therefore, my new goal have been to buy myself a new canoe for a business that will sustain my family and I in the future. Due to this reason, my brother and I decided to put money together to buy a canoe which was equivalent to $400.00USD.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
What GiveDirectly have done for me is unbelievable. I have been on people's canoes fishing throughout but the help of Givedirectly unconditional cash transfer made me to buy a canoe of my own. I am so much blessed and happy. Therefore, I have not seen anything that is not done well by GiveDirectly since it's existence in my village. I just want to thank GiveDirectly for this help given to me change my life positively.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
When I receive my recent transfer from Givedirectly, I used portion of it to buy two bundles of zinc for the construction of a better house in the future. The remaining portion of it, I used it to pay for my daughter's graduation fees and also on her graduation party to make her happy. Thanks be to God Almighty for GiveDirectly for making me a happy again.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I am a fisherman but I do not have a canoe of my own. To purchase a new very expensive. Due to this reason, when I receive my first snd second transfers from GiveDirectly, I decided to join with my brother to buy one canoe for business purpose. Me and my wife are living in a small two bed rooms house along with our children. If I generate more money from my business, I will use some of the money to build a decent big house for me and my family that will accommodate us.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
If GiveDirectly is not doing well I don't know about that. Maybe GiveDirectly can tell me what they have not done well. I believe that GiveDirectly does well by visiting every deserving households in the town and determining their eligibility from the enrolment process. I am very much happy for this great opportunity because I have been able to generate such amount of money to see my dream come true.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I have not taken my third transfer out of my account yet. If it is taken from my account, I will use it on building materials because I really want to be in a spacious house. I will use portion of the money to pay people to cut sticks to erect my house. I will also use portion of the transfer to buy another one bundle of zinc and other building materials to start my future house project.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Since I came from Buchanan in 1993, I have been using other people's canoe with a to fish because I cannot afford the cost of canoe. Sometimes the owner of the canoe takes his canoe from you once a misunderstanding occurs. Currently, my brother and I along with two other relatives are using one canoe to fish. I have only five days in the month to fish because every one of us using the one canoe has a week on sea to fish. If I am fortunate to receive any money from Give Directly, I will use part of it to buy my own canoe and and the rest will go towards the construction of my house because I am living in my father's old building with my family.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The news of Give Directly in my town is the most exciting news for me since this year. The news has given me hoping of getting my own canoe after almost 30 years of striving to own a canoe.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My major challenge is the difficulty have I have in getting my own cannoe. The canoe issue has become a major challenge for me because it is through fishing I provide for my family and I. My brother and I along with two other relatives are using one canoe. This has made life so difficult because I only have five days to fish in a whole month because everyone has a week on the canoe.
