What did you spend your second transfer on?
I have always wanted to own a motorbike that I can use for business to generate income for my family upkeep. I used part of the transfer to buy a motorcycle on hire purchase to help in generating more income for my family. I also leased a farm as I did not have enough farms to boost my sugarcane farming. I also hired a tractor to plough the farm, bought sugarcane seeds that I planted and now I am just waiting for the harvest season. I also paid casual workers to till my sugarcane farm. This will generate more and more income that I plan to use in paying school fees for my children and also use some to buy food for my family.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Our lives have changed a lot as we can now fulfil our dreams in the village. I am now able to lease a farm to plant more sugarcane to expand my farming project into a large scale. I also bought more seeds to plant and hired a tractor to plough the farm which I planted the sugarcane. When I harvest, I shall sell the farm produce and get money to start up a motorcycle spare parts business which will help in income generation for the family upkeep.
How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Previously, I did not have a distinctive way of earning income for my family and depended on meagre income from casual work to provide food for my family. Thanks to GiveDirectly I received the transfer which I used to pay for a motorbike on hire purchase. My life is now different because I have a motorcycle that I use to generate income for my family. We can easily afford food every day. My family gets to eat a healthy and balanced diet three times a day.

What did you spend your first transfer on?
I used the money as a deposit for a motorbike that I wanted to buy on credit. I deposited 34000 shillings and the rest of the cash I will deposit when I get the second transfer.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was so happy when I got the cash transfer from the organization because I knew that my dreams would eventually come true. I had planned to get a motorbike for myself but due to limited finances, I had a challenge acquiring one.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The motorbike will help me generate some income because I will be ferrying passengers for a fee and using the proceeds to sustain my family. I am sure I will use the motorbike effectively and of course it will last for several years and probably in the future I will be able to get more motorbikes,.
